Welcome to The disABLED Company™
Hi, I’m Alicia D. Polak—and just two years ago, I was climbing mountains at 15,000 feet. Then one afternoon, while just hanging out with my dog Bessie on the floor, I suddenly couldn’t get up.
That was the moment. You know the one: when everything you thought you knew changes instantly. My journey went from a diagnosis of plantar fasciitis to Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathy, then Polymyositis, and finally the big one—Inclusion Body Myositis—the same disease that took my mom’s life, and isn’t even supposed to run in families.
My life flipped upside-down. Endless tests, hospitals, losing my ability to hike mountains, camp under the stars, or even open a simple bottle of juice without help. Don’t even get me started on toilets that are basically resting on the ground—seriously, who designs these things?
But guess what? Life handed me a lousy batch of lemons, and I’ve learned how to whip up some pretty incredible lemonade.
Now, I’m here talking to you. I’m stronger, more ABLED™, and fired up about transforming the way we see disability. No more outdated treatment chairs that don’t recline, no more healthcare providers dismissing our voices, and no more impossible-to-open packaging. Being disABLED™ isn’t about settling—it’s about advocating for what we deserve and demanding better, whether at the doctor’s office, at the airport, or in our own homes.
I’m here to show you what’s possible. Because being disABLED™ doesn’t hold me back—it fuels me forward.

I'm Alicia and I'm So Excited to Meet You!
